1/2 cup cornstarch, to thicken the custard
2 packs ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi), for layering
1 tin sweetened condensed milk, as the base for the custard

2 packs ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi), for layering
Where to find ingredients
Most of these ingredients are staple items found in any Nigerian supermarket or large neighbourhood grocery store. For 'all-purpose cream' (often called table cream), look for brands in the tinned dairy aisle. Sweetened condensed milk is widely available in the baking or milk section. For the 'ladyfinger biscuits' (savoiardi), check the bakery aisle, imported goods section, or specialty confectionery shops. If you can't find ladyfingers, you can use plain digestive biscuits or shortbread as a local substitute, though the texture will be slightly denser.
Preparation method
- Dissolve the cornstarch in two tins of milk, whisking thoroughly until completely smooth
- Place a saucepan over medium heat with the condensed milk and the milk-starch mixture, stirring constantly until it thickens into a consistent, smooth custard
- Remove from the heat and stir in half of the grated white chocolate, mixing well until it has melted and is fully incorporated into the custard
- Leave the custard to cool down completely
- Gently fold the all-purpose cream into the cooled white chocolate custard until the mixture is uniform and smooth
- Lightly soak the biscuits in the remaining tin of milk
- Line the bottom of a large glass baking dish with a layer of the soaked biscuits
- Spread half of the prepared custard over the biscuit layer
- Repeat the process with another layer of soaked biscuits and the rest of the custard
- Finish by sprinkling the remaining grated white chocolate evenly over the top
- Pop it in the fridge for at least 4 hours before serving to let it firm up and achieve the perfect texture
