Ingredients
3 cups guava pulp, peeled
3/4 cup honey
1 cup water
Lemon juice to taste
3/4 cup honey
1 cup water
Lemon juice to taste
Where to find ingredients
Guavas, honey, and fresh lemons are readily available at local wet markets or supermarket produce sections. As a substitute for fresh pulp, high-quality unsweetened frozen guava pulp can be used if fresh fruit is out of season.
Preparation method
- Place the guava pulp, honey, and water in a large saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
- Stir occasionally and use a spoon to skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
- Transfer the cooked mixture into a blender.
- Pulse on low speed just enough to process the pulp without breaking up the hard seeds.
- Pass the puree through a fine-mesh sieve placed over a bowl.
- Use a wooden spoon to press the mixture through to extract all the liquid, while keeping the seeds and remaining pulp in the sieve.
- Discard the seeds and pulp left in the sieve.
- Finish by stirring the lemon juice into the strained puree.
