Where to find ingredients
Look for minced meat, eggs, onions, garlic, oil, salt, and pepper at neighbourhood markets, supermarket meat counters, and the dry-goods aisle. If needed, use ground beef as a substitute for minced meat.
Preparation method
- Heat a drizzle of oil in a pan
- Sauté the onion and garlic until lightly golden
- Add the minced beef to the pan
- Cook the beef, stirring well, until all the moisture has evaporated
- Season with salt and pepper to taste
- Turn off the heat and fold the chopped hard-boiled eggs into the mixture
- Let the filling cool completely before using to prevent the pastry dough from becoming wet or tearing
Observations
A perfect filling needs to be well dried out so it does not tear the pastry dough. The secret is to make sure the meat is well sautéed and cooled before assembling.
