Ingredients
1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
3 cups caster sugar
500g raw peanuts in shell
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
3 cups caster sugar
500g raw peanuts in shell
1 tbsp cocoa powder
Where to find ingredients
You can find raw peanuts in their shells at most larger supermarkets in the snacking or baking aisles. Coffee, cinnamon, caster sugar, baking powder, and cocoa powder are standard supermarket staples. Look for coffee in the hot drinks section and the other items in the baking or spice aisles.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar with the strong brewed coffee and heat over a medium flame
- Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the syrup starts to thicken
- Add the raw peanuts in shell, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and baking powder to the pan
- Mix all the ingredients well in the hot syrup until the mixture begins to dry out and pull away from the bottom of the pan
- As soon as it reaches a dry consistency, remove the pan from the heat
- Pour the peanut mixture onto a greased baking tray
- Place in a preheated oven at a very low temperature (around 120°C) for approximately 15 minutes
- During the time in the oven, stir the peanuts occasionally to prevent them from sticking to the tray and to ensure even drying
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before serving or storing
