1/2 cup of water
1 can (equivalent to the condensed milk measure) of concentrated passion fruit juice
1 cup of sugar
1 can of table cream
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and table cream (nestlé type) can be found in the baking aisle or world food sections of local supermarkets. Concentrated passion fruit juice is often available in international food shops; as a substitute, you may use high-quality unsweetened passion fruit nectar, adjusting the sugar if necessary.
Preparation method
- In a blender, add the condensed milk, table cream, and concentrated passion fruit juice
- Blend until you obtain a smooth and creamy mixture
- Transfer the mixture to an elegant serving dish or individual ramekins
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until it has set well
- If you wish to speed up the process, you can place it in the freezer for about 30-40 minutes
- While the mousse chills, prepare the syrup: in a saucepan, mix the sugar and water
- Place over medium heat and cook until the sugar dissolves and it forms a thin syrup
- Add the passion fruit pulp to the syrup, stirring delicately
- Cook for another 1 or 2 minutes, just to warm through and integrate the flavours
- Remove from the heat
- Once the mousse is firm, pour the passion fruit syrup over the top before serving
Observations
The passion fruit mousse is a classic and beloved dessert in Brazilian cuisine, perfect for ending any meal with a refreshing touch. Its preparation is incredibly straightforward, ideal for those seeking convenience without compromising on flavour. The combination of sweet condensed milk with the striking acidity of the passion fruit creates a creamy texture and a perfect balance between tart and sweet.
