Where to find ingredients
Dark chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla essence, eggs, wheat flour, baking powder, salt and walnuts are available in Ugandan supermarkets and larger grocery shops, mainly in the baking, dairy and nuts sections. Pecans are only a substitute if walnuts cannot be found.
Preparation method
- Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie or in the microwave and let it cool a little
- Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and walnuts in a bowl and set aside
- Beat the butter with the vanilla essence until it forms a smooth cream
- Add the sugar to the butter cream and continue beating
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
- Mix the melted chocolate into the batter
- Gently add the reserved dry ingredients
- Pour the batter into a tin that has been greased and dusted with flour
- Bake in a medium oven until cooked through
- Cut the brownie into squares while it is still hot
- Wait until it is completely cool before serving
Observations
This recipe gives you traditional brownies with a good balance between the sweetness of the sugar and the intensity of the chocolate. The secret to success is to beat the butter well with the first ingredients so the texture stays soft.
