Goiabada cascão, cut into cubes for the filling

Where to find ingredients
Look for the ingredients in the dairy aisle, baking section, and produce market. Cream cheese, butter, flour, sugar, and eggs are easy to find in supermarkets; guava paste is usually sold in Latin grocery shops or specialty food stores. If needed, use a firm guava paste as a substitute for goiabada cascão, but keep the original ingredient as the ideal choice.
Preparation method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C
- Grease the moulds with butter and dust with wheat flour, then set aside
- In a bowl, mix the eggs with the sugar until smooth and well combined
- Add the grated Minas cheese to the mixture and stir well to incorporate
- Add the cream cheese and melted butter, mixing until evenly combined
- Gradually add the wheat flour, stirring gently until you have a smooth, homogeneous batter
- Divide the batter among the prepared moulds, filling each a little over halfway
- Place a cube of goiabada in the centre of each portion of batter
- Top with the remaining batter, without going over the rim of the moulds
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, until the edges are set and the centre remains creamy
- Carefully remove from the oven, unmould while still hot, and serve immediately
- If desired, serve with guava or passion fruit purée
Observations
This petit gâteau is a dessert that brings together the contrast of cheese and goiabada, creating a velvety texture and a bold flavour. It is best served warm, so the centre stays creamy and the flavours come through beautifully. The recipe is quick to prepare, making it ideal for impressing guests at special occasions or serving as a fast yet elegant dessert.
