Ingredients
1 can of condensed milk (395 g)
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk is a staple ingredient in Malawi and can be found in the baking or tinned goods section of most major supermarkets like Shoprite, Chipiku, or local grocery stores under common international brands.
Preparation method
- Peel the paper label off the condensed milk can
- Use a small knife to scrape away any leftover glue to prevent it from clogging the pressure cooker valve
- Place the unopened can of condensed milk into your pressure cooker
- Pour enough water into the cooker to cover the can entirely, leaving about two fingers' worth of water above it
- Seal the pressure cooker lid and place it over medium heat
- Once the cooker starts hissing or whistling, turn the heat down if necessary and let it cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally. Do not force the steam out
- Once all the pressure has released, carefully open the lid
- Use tongs to lift the hot can out of the water to avoid burning your fingers
- Let the can cool down completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For the best texture, prepare it the day before you plan to serve
