Ingredients
1 kg sugar
500 ml water
1 tablespoon vinegar
Red food coloring (powder or liquid)
12 small/medium apples
500 ml water
1 tablespoon vinegar
Red food coloring (powder or liquid)
12 small/medium apples
Where to find ingredients
Sugar, water, vinegar, and food coloring can be found in any supermarket. Apples are available at grocery stores and markets.
Preparation method
- Wash and dry the apples
- Insert 1 or 2 sticks into each apple (this will help with firmness when candying)
- Lightly grease aluminum pans (cake pans work) with oil
- Place all syrup ingredients into a saucepan
- Do not use any utensil to stir the syrup, as this can cause it to crystallize
- Stir by gently swirling the pan
- Use high heat until it boils, then reduce to medium heat and maintain for approximately 25 minutes
- Dip the tip of a popsicle stick into the syrup and drip a small amount onto a greased pan
- Press the drip with your finger
- it will flatten and then release from the pan
- If the drip makes a solid sound, immediately turn off the heat and begin dipping the apples, placing them on the prepared pans
Observations
It's ideal to do this process as quickly as possible because the syrup will naturally start to harden.
