Ingredients
5 eggs
1 can condensed milk
2 cans milk
1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
1 tablespoon coffee liqueur or rum (optional)
Sugar for caramelizing the mold
1 can condensed milk
2 cans milk
1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
1 tablespoon coffee liqueur or rum (optional)
Sugar for caramelizing the mold
Where to find ingredients
Look for the ingredients in the eggs, dairy, baking, and coffee aisles of supermarkets or neighborhood wet markets. Caramel sugar is usually found with the sugar and baking section; if needed, an equivalent dark brown sugar can be used as a substitute for the caramel, but keep the coffee custard ingredients as listed.
Preparation method
- Prepare the caramel by melting the sugar directly in the flan mold over low heat. Spread the caramel up the sides.
- In a blender, add the eggs, condensed milk, milk, instant coffee, and liqueur (if using).
- Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into the caramelized mold.
- Cover the mold with aluminum foil.
- Bake in a water bath in a preheated 180°C oven for about 1 hour, or until the flan is set.
- Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool completely before refrigerating.
- Once chilled, unmold the flan onto a serving plate.
- Serve cold.
