1 beef steak, cut into small cubes
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 pepper, finely chopped
1/4 cabbage, roughly chopped
1 egg
Bacon, to taste, chopped
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp ground black pepper
Salt, to taste
3 tbsp vinegar
4 drops liquid sweetener

Where to find ingredients
For the beans, use any standard canned or home-cooked brown beans like pinto or black beans, found in any local Irish supermarket. Beef steak and bacon are easily picked up at your local butcher or supermarket meat counter. Fresh produce like onions, garlic, peppers, and cabbage are standard in the veg aisle. For the vinegar, a standard white wine or distilled vinegar from the condiments section will work perfectly.
Preparation method
- In a pan, fry the diced steak with the garlic, onion, and bacon until nicely browned
- Toss in the chopped pepper and sauté for another minute
- Add the cooked beans, chopped cabbage, enough water to just cover the ingredients, salt, black pepper, oregano, vinegar, and sweetener
- Simmer over medium heat until the cabbage has softened up nicely
- While the salad is still bubbling away, crack the egg directly into the pan
- Stir vigorously with a fork or whisk until the egg is cooked and the broth has thickened slightly
- Give it a quick taste and adjust the seasoning if needed
- Serve while piping hot
