Ingredients
1 kg beef mince
1 packet onion soup powder
100 g sliced ham
100 g sliced mozzarella cheese
1 packet onion soup powder
100 g sliced ham
100 g sliced mozzarella cheese
Where to find ingredients
Beef mince is readily available at any local butcher (slaghuis) or supermarket meat counter. Onion soup powder is a common pantry staple found in the soup and stock aisle of any local grocery store like Woolworths, Checkers, or Pick n Pay. Sliced ham and mozzarella can be found in the deli or cold meats section of your local supermarket.
Preparation method
- In a mixing bowl, combine the beef mince and onion soup powder until you have a uniform, well-mixed meat paste
- Lay out a sheet of aluminium foil on your work surface and spread the meat mixture over it, shaping it into a rectangle of even thickness
- Arrange the slices of ham and mozzarella over the meat, making sure to leave a small border around the edges
- Carefully roll up the meat into a log shape, using the aluminium foil to help you keep it firm
- Seal the ends of the meatloaf tightly to prevent the cheese from oozing out while it bakes
- Transfer the meatloaf to a roasting tray, or simply place the foil-wrapped log directly into a baking dish
- Pop it into a preheated oven and bake until the meat is cooked through and nicely browned
