Ingredients
1 kg wheat flour
500 g vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon salt
290 ml chilled guarana soda
1 kg minced beef
Salt and seasonings to taste for the beef
1 egg yolk for brushing
500 g vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon salt
290 ml chilled guarana soda
1 kg minced beef
Salt and seasonings to taste for the beef
1 egg yolk for brushing
Where to find ingredients
Look for the flour, vegetable shortening, salt, eggs, and guarana soda in the supermarket baking aisle and drinks section; ask the butcher for fresh minced beef.
Preparation method
- In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour, vegetable shortening, and salt
- Add the chilled guarana soda little by little and mix until you get a smooth dough that holds together. Do not overwork
- Divide the dough into portions and roll out each portion to shape the pastels, forming discs
- Prepare the filling by mixing the minced beef with salt and your preferred seasonings. Do not cook the meat beforehand
- Place the filling over one half of each dough disc and fold to form the pastels
- Arrange the pastels on a baking tray
- Brush the surface of each pastel with the egg yolk
- Bake in a preheated oven at high temperature (approximately 200°C)
- Bake until the pastels are golden and the dough is cooked through. To check, insert a toothpick into one of them; if it comes out clean and the pastry is baked, they are ready
