Where to find ingredients
Eggs, sugar, butter, and plain flour can be found in any local supermarket like FairPrice or Cold Storage. For orange juice, freshly squeezed is best; you can pick up fresh oranges from the wet market or the fruit section of your neighbourhood supermarket. Breadcrumbs are available in the baking aisle. For high-quality butter, look for block butter in the dairy section.
Preparation method
- Blitz all the ingredients in a blender until you have a smooth, well-combined batter
- Grease a 36 x 24 cm baking tray with butter
- Line the base and sides of the tray with baking paper
- Brush butter over the baking paper and lightly coat it with breadcrumbs
- Preheat your oven to a low heat setting
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray
- Bake for 50 minutes or until the surface is lightly golden
- Lay out a clean tea towel on a flat surface
- Dust the entire surface of the tea towel with sugar
- Carefully turn the baking tray over onto the tea towel to unmold the cake
- Gently peel off the baking paper
- Use the tea towel to roll up the cake from the shorter side to create the Swiss roll shape
- Transfer your Swiss roll onto a serving platter
- Dust with icing sugar and garnish with the strips of orange zest
