Where to find ingredients
Olive oil, onions, garlic, cumin, bay leaves, salt, and pepper are widely available in the spice aisle or produce section of most supermarkets. Lentils can be found in the dried goods aisle of most supermarkets, often near rice and beans. Specialty Latin or Middle Eastern markets may also carry a wider variety of lentils.
Preparation method
- Chop the onion and garlic into small pieces
- Heat the olive oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat
- Sauté the onion with a pinch of salt until lightly golden
- Add the chopped garlic
- Add the cumin and bay leaf
- Sauté for about one minute to release the aroma of the spices
- Add the lentils
- Season with black pepper and one teaspoon of salt

- Pour the water into the pot
