3 to 4 beef stock cubes
8 large onions, cut into thick slices
Optional: medium potatoes, peeled and cut into thick slices
3 to 4 beef stock cubes
8 large onions, cut into thick slices
Where to find ingredients
Look for the beef or pork in the butcher’s section, the onions and potatoes in the produce aisle, and beef stock cubes in the dry goods or soup aisle. If you can’t find stock cubes, a similar beef stock cube can be used as a substitute.
Preparation method
- Line the base of the pressure cooker with half the onion slices
- Crumble 1 or 2 beef stock cubes over the onions
- Add the beef cubes over the onions
- Season the beef with the remaining stock cubes
- Cover the beef with the remaining onion slices
- Put the lid on the pressure cooker and cook over medium heat for about 25 minutes after it comes up to pressure
- Turn off the heat and wait for the pressure to release naturally
- If you want to add potatoes, remove the onion from the top, add the potato slices, put the lid back on and cook for another 10 minutes after it comes up to pressure
- Wait for the pressure to release naturally before opening
Observations
Carne de panela de pressão is a comforting dish and is extremely popular in Brazilian cooking. Its practicality and the result of meat that falls apart because it is so tender make it ideal for quick weeknight meals. With just a few ingredients and the help of a pressure cooker, you can achieve a deep flavour and a texture that suits everyone. This recipe is a versatile base that can be served with white rice and a fresh salad.
