Where to find ingredients
Chicken breast can be easily found at any local butcher shop or the poultry section of your nearest supermarket. For chicken bouillon cubes, check the spice or soup aisle in major grocers; avoid brand names and look for standard poultry-based stock cubes. Breadcrumbs are usually in the baking or dry goods aisle, while standard vegetable or sunflower oil for frying is available in every grocery store. If you can't find specific ingredients, any local well-stocked supermarket will carry these pantry staples.
Preparation method
- Pour the water into a pot and drop in the chicken bouillon cubes
- Bring the liquid to a rolling boil over medium-high heat
- Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized cubes
- Pop the chicken pieces into the boiling water and let them cook for 5 minutes
- Take the chicken out of the pot, drain it well, and let it cool down for a few minutes
- While the chicken is cooling, beat the eggs in a bowl with a sprinkle of oregano and salt
- Dip each piece of cooked chicken into the beaten egg mixture
- Coat the chicken evenly with the breadcrumbs, making sure to cover every side
- Get enough oil hot in a pan over medium-high heat to submerge the nuggets
- Fry the breaded nuggets for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn a lovely golden brown and get nice and crispy
- Scoop the nuggets out of the pan and let them rest on kitchen paper to drain off any excess oil
Observations
Chicken nuggets are a crowd-pleasing classic and a super versatile go-to for quick lunches or casual dinners. This homemade version starts with fresh chicken breast, giving you a much tastier, better-quality result than those mass-produced store-bought frozen ones. It is a real hit with both adults and kids alike, whether you serve them as a cheeky starter, a side dish, or just a simple, no-fuss main meal.
