Where to find ingredients
In Belize, you can find the cheeses, cream, wheat flour, baking powder, eggs and seasonings at supermarkets, neighbourhood grocery shops and well-stocked dairy counters; use a mild local white cheese if Minas or prato cheese is not available.
Preparation method
- Start by combining the two kinds of cheese, the eggs, black pepper and cream in a bowl, mixing everything very well
- Add the wheat flour and baking powder little by little, folding them in until the dough reaches a soft, workable texture
- Shape small balls, using two teaspoons to help
- Fry the balls in hot oil until they are nicely golden and crisp
Observations
This recipe is perfect for nibbling at get-togethers or for a quick snack. The secret is to mix the ingredients well until you get a smooth dough that is easy to shape, then fry the balls until golden.
