1/2 cup sugar
1 cup sugar (for sprinkling)
Vegetable oil for frying (about 500 ml to 1 litre)
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for sprinkling)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup sugar (for sprinkling)
Vegetable oil for frying (about 500 ml to 1 litre)
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Where to find ingredients
Buy the ingredients at any grocery store, bakery aisle, or market produce section. Look for flour, sugar, milk, eggs, baking powder, cinnamon, and vegetable oil in the dry goods, dairy, and cooking oil sections.
Preparation method
- In a large bowl, crack the 2 eggs
- Add the sugar (1/2 cup) and the milk (1 cup)
- Mix well with a whisk or fork until you have a smooth batter
- Add the all-purpose flour (2 and 1/2 cups) a little at a time, stirring constantly to incorporate it and prevent lumps
- The batter should be creamy and slightly thick, falling slowly from the spoon
- Fold the baking powder into the batter (1 tablespoon), mixing gently only until fully combined
- Do not overmix
- In a deep saucepan, heat a generous amount of vegetable oil over medium heat
- There should be enough oil for the fritters to be submerged
- Heat the oil to about 180°C
- To test it, drop a small piece of batter into the hot oil
- if it bubbles and rises slowly, the oil is at the right temperature
- Use two spoons to shape small portions of batter
- Carefully place the portions of batter into the hot oil, frying a few fritters at a time so the oil does not cool and they brown evenly
- Fry the fritters until they are golden on all sides
- Turn them as needed during frying for an even colour
- Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain the excess oil
- On a shallow plate, mix the sugar (1 cup) with the ground cinnamon (1 teaspoon)
- Roll the fritters while they are still warm in the sugar and cinnamon mixture
- Serve immediately and enjoy
