Easy homemade chicken nuggets (nuggets de frango)

Ingredients

1 kg chicken breast (skinless and boneless)
1 litre water
2 chicken bouillon cubes
2 eggs
Dried oregano to taste
Salt to taste
Breadcrumbs
Oil for frying

Where to find ingredients

Chicken breast is widely available at local butcher shops or supermarket meat counters. Chicken bouillon cubes can be found in the pantry or stock aisle of any grocery store. Breadcrumbs are usually in the baking or dry goods section; you can use plain or panko for extra crunch. Vegetable oil for frying is sold in the oils and fats aisle of local markets. Fresh eggs are a pantry staple found in the dairy or cold goods section.

Preparation method

  1. Pour the water into a saucepan and add the chicken bouillon cubes
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat
  3. Dice the chicken breast into your preferred nugget-sized pieces
  4. Add the chicken cubes to the boiling water and cook for 5 minutes
  5. Remove the chicken from the pot, drain well, and let it cool down for a few minutes
  6. While the chicken is cooling, whisk the eggs in a bowl with oregano and salt
  7. Dip each piece of cooked chicken into the beaten egg mixture
  8. Coat the chicken evenly in breadcrumbs, making sure every side is covered
  9. Heat enough oil in a pan over high heat to fully submerge the nuggets
  10. Fry the breaded nuggets for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn golden and crispy
  11. Take the fried nuggets out of the pan and drain any excess oil on paper towels

Observations

Chicken nuggets are a classic crowd-pleaser and a versatile go-to for busy weeknights or a cheeky afternoon snack. By making them at home with fresh chicken breast, you get a much tastier result than any shop-bought version, and you know exactly what’s in them. Kids and adults alike will love them, whether you're serving them as a starter, a quick side, or a light main dish.
