Ingredients
1 can (395g) condensed milk
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk is readily available in major supermarkets and grocery stores across the UK. Look for it in the baking or dairy aisle. Brands like Carnation, Nestle, and supermarket own-brands are common. Ensure you buy the full-fat version for the best creamy texture.
Preparation method
- Remove the paper label from the condensed milk can
- Using a small knife, remove any glue residue to avoid clogging the cooker's valve
- Place the condensed milk can inside the pressure cooker
- Add water to the pot, enough to cover the can, leaving about two fingers of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and place it over medium heat
- As soon as the cooker starts to hiss (whistle), reduce the heat if necessary and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and let the steam release naturally. Do not force the steam out
- Once all the pressure has escaped, carefully open the cooker lid
- Use tongs to remove the hot can from the cooker, avoiding burns
- Let the can cool completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the dulce de leche the day before you plan to use it
