2 cups all-purpose flour
200 g sliced ham, chopped

2 beaten eggs (for coating)

Where to find ingredients
Look for the ingredients in the dairy section, bakery aisle, and the flour and cooking oil shelves at local supermarkets or neighbourhood grocery shops. If needed, use shredded cheese and sliced ham as substitutes for the fillings, keeping the original ham and cheese flavour in mind.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, bring the milk to the boil with the butter and salt
- When the mixture comes to the boil, add the 2 cups of all-purpose flour all at once
- Stir vigorously with a spoon until a smooth dough forms
- Keep cooking over low heat, kneading the dough in the pan itself, until it comes away from the bottom
- Transfer the dough to a clean, smooth surface, such as the sink or a worktop, and knead it well while it is still warm
- Roll out the dough with your hands or a rolling pin, making it thin
- Using the rim of a glass, cut rounds from the dough
- Place a portion of chopped ham and chopped mozzarella in the centre of half the rounds
- Cover with the remaining rounds, pressing the edges to seal and form the risoles
- Dip each risole in the beaten eggs and then in the breadcrumbs, making sure they are well coated
- Heat enough oil in a frying pan and fry the risoles until evenly golden on all sides
- Remove the fried risoles with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil
