Ingredients
1 kg all-purpose flour
500 g vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon salt
290 ml chilled guaraná soda
1 kg ground beef
Salt and seasonings to taste for the beef
1 egg yolk for brushing
500 g vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon salt
290 ml chilled guaraná soda
1 kg ground beef
Salt and seasonings to taste for the beef
1 egg yolk for brushing
Where to find ingredients
Find flour, salt, eggs, and ground beef at local markets or supermarkets. Vegetable shortening can be found in the baking aisle. Guaraná soda is a specialized imported soft drink; if unavailable, a high-quality sparkling lemon-lime soda can serve as a substitute for the texture, though the flavor profile will differ.
Preparation method
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, vegetable shortening, and salt
- Gradually add the chilled guaraná soda and mix until you have a homogeneous dough that holds together. Do not over-knead
- Divide the dough into portions and roll out each one to assemble the pastries, forming discs
- Prepare the filling by mixing the ground beef with salt and your preferred seasonings. Do not cook the meat beforehand
- Place the filling on one half of each dough disc and close, sealing the pastries
- Arrange the pastries on a baking sheet
- Brush the surface of each pastry with the egg yolk
- Place in an oven preheated to a high temperature (approximately 200°C)
- Bake until the pastries are golden brown and the dough is cooked through. To check for doneness, prick one with a toothpick; if it comes out clean and the dough is cooked, they are ready
