3 ripe plantains
1 cup water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon butter
2 cloves
1 cup water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon butter
2 cloves
Where to find ingredients
Plantains, sugar, butter and cloves can be found in supermarkets, produce markets and general food shops. If plantains are not available, use firm ripe cooking bananas as a substitute, keeping plantains as ideal.
Preparation method
- Mix the water, sugar, butter and cloves in a frying pan
- Peel the plantains
- Add the plantains to the frying pan
- Cover the frying pan
- Cook over low heat
- Remove the lid once the plantains are soft
- Increase the stove flame
- Let the plantains brown until they look caramelised on all sides
- Move the frying pan constantly to make sure they do not stick to the bottom
Observations
This dish gives you soft plantains coated in a shiny syrup. It is an excellent choice to serve with savoury dishes or as a quick dessert.
