Where to find ingredients
You'll find most of these staples at any local grocery store. For the fresh yeast cakes, check the refrigerated dairy or bakery section of your supermarket. If you're struggling to find fresh yeast, you can substitute with dry active yeast (use about 10g or 3 teaspoons for this amount of flour) found in the baking aisle. Hot dog sausages are best sourced from the chilled meat section. The produce section will have your fresh parsley, bell peppers, and tomatoes. The mashed potatoes can be prepared from scratch using local potatoes or, if you're short on time, use a small amount of leftover mash.
Preparation method
- Crack the eggs into a blender
- Add the fresh parsley
- Pour in the milk
- Add the oil
- Season with salt
- Add the yeast and sugar to the blender and blitz until smooth
- Pour the mixture into a bowl and gradually stir in the flour
- Knead the dough until it is smooth and no longer sticks to your hands
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot for one hour
- Sauté the onions in a large pan
- Add the bell pepper and diced tomatoes to the pan
- Stir in the tomato sauce
- Mix in the mustard and ketchup
- Season to your liking, then toss in the sliced sausages to finish the filling
- Spread half of the dough into the base of a greased baking dish
- Spread a layer of mashed potatoes over the dough base
- Distribute the sausage filling evenly across the top
- Cover with the remaining dough
- Brush the top with a beaten egg yolk for a beautiful golden finish
- Bake in a preheated oven at medium heat (around 180°C) for 40 minutes
