Ingredients
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 kg ground beef (beef, pork, or mixed)
2 beef stock cubes
1 cup water
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup mashed potato
Fresh chopped parsley, to taste
4 tablespoons creamy requeijão
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 kg ground beef (beef, pork, or mixed)
2 beef stock cubes
1 cup water
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup mashed potato
Fresh chopped parsley, to taste
4 tablespoons creamy requeijão
Where to find ingredients
Look for the ingredients in the fresh produce section, the meat counter, the dairy aisle, and the pantry staples aisle at your local supermarket or neighborhood market. If needed, use a beef stock cube as a substitute for the meat broth tablets.
Preparation method
- In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until transparent and lightly golden
- Add the ground beef to the pan and cook, breaking it up as you go, until it loses its pink colour and browns
- Dissolve the beef stock cubes into the beef mixture and mix well
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water until smooth
- Pour the cornstarch mixture into the pan with the beef, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens slightly
- Stir in the mashed potato and chopped parsley, mixing everything until the mixture is even
- Transfer the beef mixture to a baking dish or Pyrex dish, spreading it out evenly
- Cover the surface of the meat loaf with the creamy requeijão, spreading it into a smooth layer
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 15-20 minutes, or until the requeijão melts and turns lightly golden
- Remove from the oven and serve the meat loaf hot
