Where to find ingredients
Buy the beef mince, eggs, onion, garlic, oil, salt and pepper from the chilled meat section, the egg aisle and the produce section at your local supermarket or market. If needed, use ground beef as a substitute for the minced meat.
Preparation method
- Heat a drizzle of oil in a pan
- Sauté the onion and garlic until lightly golden
- Add the beef mince to the pan
- Cook the beef, stirring well, until all the moisture has evaporated
- Season with salt and pepper to your taste
- Turn off the heat and fold the chopped hard-boiled eggs into the mixture
- Let the filling cool completely before using it to prevent the pastel pastry from becoming damp or tearing
Observations
A perfect filling needs to be quite dry so it does not tear the pastry. The secret is to make sure the beef is well sautéed and cooled before assembling.
