Where to find ingredients
You can pick up all these basics at your local supermarket or grocery. Find fresh produce like onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes in the fruit and veg aisle. Sausages are easily sourced from the meat counter or refrigerated section. For pantry staples like flour, yeast, oil, and condiments such as ketchup and mustard, hit the baking and condiments aisles. Mashed potatoes are simple to make yourself using local potatoes, but you can also find convenient pre-made options in the chilled food section if you're in a rush.
Preparation method
- Whisk the eggs in your blender
- Add in the fresh parsley
- Pour in the milk
- Add the vegetable oil
- Season with the salt
- Toss in the yeast and sugar, then blend until everything is well combined
- Pour the mix into a mixing bowl and stir in the flour a little at a time
- Knead the dough until it's smooth and stops sticking to your hands
- Cover it up and let the dough rest for about an hour
- Sauté the diced onion in a pan until soft
- Toss in the bell pepper and chopped tomatoes
- Stir in the tomato sauce
- Add the mustard and ketchup to the pan
- Season the mix to your liking and stir in the sausage slices to finish the filling
- Press half of the rested dough into the base of a greased baking dish
- Spread a layer of mashed potatoes over the dough if you're using it
- Spread the sausage filling evenly over the top
- Cover the filling with the rest of the dough
- Brush the top with a beaten egg yolk to get that lovely golden colour
- Bake in a preheated oven at medium heat for 40 minutes
