Bacon and cheddar pastel filling (Recheio de pastel bacon com cheddar)

Ingredients

200g of chopped bacon
200g of grated or diced cheddar cheese

Where to find ingredients

Look for Brazilian ingredients such as requeijão, goiabada, guaraná soda, calabresa, cassava flour, tapioca starch, cachaça and jiló in Brazilian or Latin American grocers, international food shops, gourmet supermarkets and online speciality grocery sections. Standard produce, dairy, meat and pantry items are usually available in supermarkets, wet markets and neighbourhood grocery stores. If needed, use only clearly labelled substitutes here: cream cheese for requeijão, chorizo-style smoked sausage for calabresa, and panko or dry breadcrumbs where farinha de rosca is unavailable.

Preparation method

  1. Em uma frigideira, frite o bacon picado em medium heat until que fique well crocante
  2. Remove o bacon da frigideira, escorrendo o excesso de gordura
  3. Na mesma frigideira (ou in a bowl), misture o bacon frito com o cheese cheddar
  4. Stir well until que o cheddar comece a derreter e incorpore o bacon
  5. Utilize a mistura quente como filling para pastéis

Observations

This bacon and cheddar filling adds a rich touch to pastels. Crisp fried bacon and sharp cheddar make an easy, crowd-pleasing combination for snacks or casual meals.
