Easy Creamy Condensed Milk Custard (Pudim de Leite)

Ingredients

3 eggs
1 tin sweetened condensed milk
1 tin whole milk (use the empty condensed milk tin as your measure)
3 tablespoons sugar (for the caramel syrup)

Where to find ingredients

Eggs and sugar are standard staples found in any local shop or supermarket. Sweetened condensed milk is widely available in the baking or long-life milk aisle of all local grocers. Use high-quality full-cream milk for the best texture; you can find this in the dairy or long-life aisles. For the mould, a standard aluminium ring cake tin or bundt pan is perfect for this recipe.

Preparation method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C and let it warm up for 10 minutes
  2. In a blender, blitz the eggs, condensed milk, and whole milk for about 3 minutes until the mixture is perfectly smooth and combined
  3. Prepare the caramel directly in a ring mould (bundt tin). Add the sugar and place over low heat, swirling occasionally until it melts into a rich, golden amber syrup
  4. Carefully coat the bottom and inner sides of the mould with the caramel
  5. Pour the blended custard mixture into the caramel-lined mould
  6. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the custard is set and golden on top
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool down completely on a wire rack before moving to the fridge
  8. Chill for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight, to ensure it sets firmly and develops that silky texture
  9. To serve, run a thin knife around the edges and invert the mould onto a serving plate to release the pudim

Observations

Pudim de leite condensado is a true staple in Brazilian households, cherished for its humble ingredients and deeply satisfying, silky finish.

Its unmistakable melt-in-the-mouth texture and perfectly balanced sweetness make it the ideal centerpiece for a Sunday family lunch or any special gathering.

This no-fuss recipe is designed for everyday cooking and skips the complex water bath (banho-maria) method, making it wonderfully easy to achieve a professional, crowd-pleasing dessert right in your own kitchen.
