Ingredients
1 cup sugar
100 g butter
4 eggs
1 can Coca-Cola
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tin cream
3 tablespoons sugar (for the topping)
2 tablespoons butter (for the topping)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (for the topping)
100 g butter
4 eggs
1 can Coca-Cola
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tin cream
3 tablespoons sugar (for the topping)
2 tablespoons butter (for the topping)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (for the topping)
Where to find ingredients
You can find all these ingredients at standard local supermarkets. Cocoa powder can be found in the baking aisle. For cream, look for canned table cream or dessert cream. If you cannot find specific Brazilian-style chocolate powder, regular unsweetened cocoa powder is an excellent substitute.
Preparation method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C
- In a large bowl, beat the sugar and butter until light and fluffy
- Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Set the whites aside
- Add the egg yolks to the butter and sugar cream and beat well until fully incorporated
- Add the Coca-Cola to the mixture, alternating with the dry ingredients (flour and cocoa powder), while beating continuously
- Add the baking powder and mix gently
- Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form
- Fold the beaten egg whites into the cake batter, stirring gently from bottom to top to maintain the airiness
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured ring cake pan
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 35 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- While the cake bakes, prepare the topping: in a saucepan, combine the cream, the 3 tablespoons of sugar, the butter, and the 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the topping thickens slightly
- Remove the cake from the oven, let it cool slightly, and remove from the pan
- Pour the topping over the still-warm cake
