Ingredients
1 tin sweetened condensed milk (395 g)
Where to find ingredients
Tinned sweetened condensed milk can be found in supermarkets, trade stores and grocery shops, usually with baking items, long-life milk or dessert ingredients. Use sweetened condensed milk for the proper result; a caramel topping is only a substitute.
Preparation method
- Take the paper label off the tin of sweetened condensed milk
- With a small knife, remove any glue left on the tin so it does not block the pressure cooker valve
- Place the tin of sweetened condensed milk inside the pressure cooker
- Pour in enough water to cover the tin, leaving about two fingers of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and put it on medium heat
- When the cooker begins to whistle, reduce the heat if needed and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and wait for the steam to come out on its own. Do not force the steam out
- Once all the pressure has gone, open the lid carefully
- Use tongs to take the hot tin out of the cooker, taking care not to burn yourself
- Let the tin cool fully for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the doce de leite the day before eating
