Cheese-Stuffed Meatballs (Almôndegas recheadas com queijo)

Ingredients

30 g of queijo fresco, cut into small cubes
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
100 g of lean ground beef
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of fresh parsley, chopped
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
1/2 can of tomato sauce

Where to find ingredients

You can find lean ground beef and fresh produce at local supermarkets or butcher shops. Queijo fresco is a traditional Brazilian fresh cheese; if unavailable, you may substitute it with a mild, low-moisture fresh mozzarella as a close alternative.

Preparation method

  1. Season the cheese cubes with the oregano and set them aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the meat mixture, kneading well until you have a smooth, consistent dough that holds its shape.
  4. Take a small portion of the meat mixture, flatten it in the palm of your hand, and place a seasoned cheese cube in the center.
  5. Carefully seal the meat around the cheese, shaping and rolling it into a neat ball.
  6. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. While the meatballs are baking, heat the tomato sauce in a small saucepan.
  8. Serve the hot meatballs drizzled with the warm tomato sauce.

Observations

Cheese-stuffed meatballs are a versatile and comforting dish, perfect for those who want a practical yet flavorful meal. This recipe combines the succulence of lean ground beef with the creamy texture of melted cheese, resulting in truly irresistible meatballs. When served with a rich tomato sauce, they become an excellent choice for a family dinner or casual get-togethers.
