Cheesy Stuffed Meatballs (Almôndega recheada)

Ingredients

Vegetable oil for frying
1 packet of onion soup mix
1 large egg
500g beef mince
300g grated mozzarella

Where to find ingredients

You can find beef mince and quality shredded mozzarella in the meat and dairy aisles of any local supermarket. Onion soup mix is typically available in the dry pantry or spice section.

Preparation method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, egg, and the packet of onion soup mix until the mixture is uniform.
  2. Take small portions of the meat mixture and flatten each piece in the palm of your hand.
  3. Place a small amount of the grated mozzarella in the centre of the flattened meat patty.
  4. Carefully seal the meat around the cheese, rolling it between your palms to form a round meatball.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy-based pan or pot over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the meatballs in the hot oil for approximately 10 minutes, turning occasionally until they are evenly browned and cooked through.

Observations

Stuffed meatballs, known as almôndega recheada, are a staple of Brazilian home cooking, balancing convenience with bold flavours. The marriage of seasoned ground beef with a gooey mozzarella heart creates an irresistible texture that is perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner or as a hearty sharing dish.
