Ingredients
1 1/2 cups rice
2 cups water
1 star anise
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
1 star anise
1 teaspoon salt
Where to find ingredients
Find the ingredients in the rice aisle, spices section, and salt shelf of your local supermarket or neighbourhood market. If fresh star anise is unavailable, use a dried star anise as a substitute.
Preparation method
- Place the rice, water, salt and star anise in the pressure cooker
- Gently mix everything with a spoon
- Cover the pan and bring it to high heat
- When the cooker starts hissing to indicate pressure, lower the heat
- Let it cook for 5 minutes
- Turn off the heat and wait for the steam to escape naturally until the sound stops completely
- Open the cooker safely and remove the star anise
- Transfer the rice to a bowl
- Serve the dish while still hot
Observations
This cooking method produces rice with a soft texture and a lightly sticky finish. It is an excellent choice to serve alongside Asian dishes or any meal that calls for a distinctive aromatic touch.
