Ingredients
1 egg
1/2 kg wheat flour
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup water
1 cube fresh yeast
25 g sugar
15 g salt
1/2 kg wheat flour
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup water
1 cube fresh yeast
25 g sugar
15 g salt
Where to find ingredients
Find the ingredients in the flour aisle, the baking section, and the fresh produce or refrigerated section of your local supermarket. For the yeast, look in the baking aisle; if needed, use fresh baker’s yeast as the ideal substitute.
Preparation method
- Mix the yeast with a small portion of the flour and a little of the water to create a sponge
- Let the mixture rest for about 10 minutes to activate the yeast
- Add the remaining flour, the egg, the sugar, the salt, the oil, and the rest of the water gradually
- Knead well until you get a smooth, very soft dough
- Shape balls to the size you prefer and let rest for 15 minutes under a clean kitchen towel
- Roll out each ball with a rolling pin, add your chosen filling, and seal the edges well as if making a pastel
- Arrange the fogazzas on a greased baking sheet and let rest briefly before frying
- Fry in hot oil until golden on both sides and drain on paper towels
