1/2 tablespoon chopped green onions
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Salt to taste
Water as needed for cooking the rice
8 tablespoons vegetable oil (to cook the dough and boil in water)
1 egg
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1/2 tablespoon chopped green onions
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Salt to taste
Water as needed for cooking the rice
8 tablespoons vegetable oil (to cook the dough and boil in water)
Where to find ingredients
You can find all fresh herbs like cilantro and green onions, as well as staples like rice and flour, at local markets or neighborhood grocery stores. Vegetable oil and other dry goods are widely available in the pantry aisles of standard supermarkets.
Preparation method
- Cook the rice in salted water until it is very soft.
- Drain any excess water if necessary.
- In a blender, process the cooked rice with the egg, parsley, cilantro, and green onions until smooth.
- Transfer the mixture to a pot.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour while stirring.
- Place the pot over low heat and cook the dough, stirring constantly, until it pulls away from the bottom of the pot and forms a ball.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Remove the dough from the pot and let it cool slightly.
- On a clean, lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a cylinder about 2 cm in diameter.
- Cut the gnocchi into pieces approximately 2 cm long.
- In a large pot, bring plenty of water to a boil with salt and 4 tablespoons of the vegetable oil.
- Add the gnocchi to the boiling water in batches to prevent sticking.
- Remove the gnocchi from the water as soon as they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked.
- Drain the cooked gnocchi and, if desired, sauté them in a pan with the remaining vegetable oil or serve immediately with your favorite sauce.
