Where to find ingredients
Lentils are staples you can find in the pulse or dried goods aisle of any local grocery store. For the best result, use standard brown or green lentils. Cumin, garlic, onions, and bay leaves are readily available in the spice, produce, and pantry sections of all major supermarkets. If you are near a specialty shop, feel free to pick up high-quality whole spices to grind yourself for extra freshness.
Preparation method
- Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic
- Heat the olive oil in your pressure cooker over medium heat
- Sauté the onion with a pinch of salt until it turns soft and translucent
- Stir in the minced garlic
- Add the cumin and the bay leaf to the pot
- Sauté for about a minute until fragrant
- Add the lentils to the pot
- Season with black pepper and a teaspoon of salt
- Give it a good stir to make sure every grain is coated in those aromatics
- Pour in the water
- Seal the lid and turn the heat up to high
- Once the pressure cooker reaches full pressure and starts whistling, lower the heat
- Turn the heat down to a low simmer
- Cook for exactly 5 minutes
- Turn off the heat
- Let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid
- Serve the lentils while still warm
