Pressure Cooker Lentils with Cumin

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 bay leaf
1 cup lentils
3 cups water
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Chop the onion and garlic into small pieces
  2. Heat the olive oil in the pressure cooker over medium heat
  3. Sauté the onion with a pinch of salt until lightly golden
  4. Add the minced garlic
  5. Add the cumin and bay leaf
  6. Sauté for about one minute to release the aroma of the spices
  7. Add the lentils
  8. Season with black pepper and one teaspoon of salt
  9. Mix well to coat the lentils with the seasonings
  10. Pour the water into the pot
  11. Close the lid and turn up the heat
  12. As soon as the pot reaches pressure and starts to whistle
  13. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting
  14. Cook for 5 minutes
  15. Turn off the heat
  16. Allow the pressure to release naturally before opening the lid
  17. Serve the lentils hot
