Pressure Cooker Brown Rice (Arroz integral na panela de pressão)

Ingredients

1 tbsp oil
1/2 onion
1 bay leaf
1 clove
1 cup long-grain brown rice
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups boiling water

Where to find ingredients

Look for brown rice, bay leaves, cloves, salt, and cooking oil in the grains, spices, and oils aisles of supermarkets or neighbourhood shops. Fresh onions are usually sold in the produce section.

Preparation method

  1. Keep the half onion whole
  2. Pin the bay leaf to the onion using the clove as a holder
  3. Heat the pressure cooker over medium heat without the lid
  4. Add the oil, the assembled onion, and the rice
  5. Season with the salt
  6. Sauté the grains for 1 minute so they are coated in the oil
  7. Pour in the boiling water and mix well
  8. Close the cooker and increase the stove flame
  9. As soon as the cooker comes up to pressure and starts to hiss, lower the heat
  10. Cook for 15 minutes
  11. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid
  12. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve immediately

Observations

Using a pressure cooker cuts the cooking time for brown rice dramatically. This method gives you a tasty, reliable side dish while keeping the grain's goodness in a practical way for everyday cooking.
