Where to find ingredients
In Tanzania, wheat flour, milk, eggs, oil, sugar, salt and breadcrumbs are widely sold in supermarkets, neighbourhood shops and open markets. Fresh biological yeast may be found in bakeries or larger supermarkets; if only dry yeast is available, use it only as a clearly measured substitute outside the core recipe.
Preparation method
- Place the warm milk, yeast, oil, sugar, salt and eggs in a blender and blend well until the mixture is smooth
- Pour the blender mixture into a large bowl and add the wheat flour little by little, kneading the dough until it is smooth and elastic
- Divide the dough into two equal parts
- Grease the tins with oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs, placing each part of the dough in them
- Leave the dough to rest in a covered, warm place until it doubles in size
- Microwave one tin at a time for 7 to 9 minutes, adjusting according to the power of your appliance
- Turn the bread out while still warm onto a plate
Observations
This microwave bread is a useful option when you want fresh bread quickly and do not want to rely on a standard oven. With basic ingredients and a straightforward method, it gives a soft, tasty loaf for breakfast, tea or quick snacks.
