Ingredients
1 1/2 cups rice
2 cups water
1 star anise
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
1 star anise
1 teaspoon salt
Where to find ingredients
Look for the rice, salt, and star anise in the rice and spices aisles, and buy them from the dry goods section or a local market; if star anise is unavailable, a similar whole spice is the closest substitute.
Preparation method
- Place the rice, water, salt, and star anise in the pressure cooker
- Gently stir everything together with a spoon
- Cover the pot and bring it to high heat
- When the cooker starts to whistle, indicating pressure, lower the heat
- Let it cook for 5 minutes
- Turn off the heat and wait for the steam to release naturally until the sound stops completely
- Open the cooker safely and remove the star anise
- Transfer the rice to a bowl
- Serve the dish while still hot
Observations
This cooking method yields rice with a tender, slightly sticky texture. It is an excellent choice to serve alongside Asian dishes or any meal that calls for a distinctive aromatic note.
