Where to find ingredients
In Pakistan, plain flour or maida, oil, sugar, salt, eggs and milk are available from grocery stores, kiryana shops and supermarkets. Fresh yeast may be found at bakery supply shops, larger supermarkets or local bakeries; dry yeast is a substitute only if fresh yeast is not available, while the original recipe calls for fresh yeast. Breadcrumbs are sold in supermarket baking sections or can be made from plain bread at home.
Preparation method
- Put the lukewarm milk, yeast, oil, sugar, salt and eggs in a blender and blend well until the mixture is smooth
- Pour the blender mixture into a large bowl and add the plain flour little by little, kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic
- Divide the dough into two equal portions
- Grease the tins with oil and dust with breadcrumbs, then place each portion of dough in them
- Leave the dough to rest in a warm, covered spot until it doubles in size
- Microwave one tin at a time for 7 to 9 minutes, adjusting the time according to your appliance's power
- Turn the bread out onto a plate while it is still warm
Observations
This microwave bread is a convenient option for making fresh loaves with basic pantry ingredients. The dough is mixed simply, left to rise, then cooked one tin at a time, giving a fluffy bread that goes well with chai, coffee or a quick everyday snack.
