1 can diced peeled tomatoes (with liquid)
2/3 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds

Where to find ingredients
Find fresh vegetables at local markets and grocery stores. Canned tomatoes and spices are readily available at any food retailer. If cumin seeds are unavailable, ground cumin may be used as a substitute.
Preparation method
- Wash the okra and dry them carefully with a clean kitchen towel
- Trim the ends and slice each okra diagonally into 1 cm pieces
- Set the sliced okra aside
- Finely chop the onion and garlic
- Halve the bell pepper, remove the seeds, and chop half of it into 1 cm cubes
- Lightly crush the cumin seeds in a mortar and pestle to release the aroma
- Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat with the olive oil
- Add the onion and bell pepper
- Season with a pinch of salt and sauté for 3 minutes until the vegetables soften
- Add the garlic and crushed cumin
- Stir everything for 1 minute until fragrant
- Pour in the water and stir well to release the flavor from the bottom of the pan
- Incorporate the canned tomatoes with their liquid
- Season with 1 tsp of salt and black pepper to taste
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat
- Reduce the flame and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens
- Add the sliced okra to the pan
- Cook for 6 more minutes, stirring occasionally, until the okra is slightly tender
- Avoid overcooking so the okra maintains the ideal texture
- Serve immediately
