Ingredients
2 cups (tea cups) sugar
3 cups (tea cups) raw peanuts
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (tea cup) corn syrup
3 cups (tea cups) raw peanuts
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (tea cup) corn syrup
Where to find ingredients
Raw peanuts, baking soda and corn syrup are usually found in supermarkets, grocery shops and baking aisles. Pé de moleque is the Brazilian peanut sweet; peanut brittle is only the closest style reference.
Preparation method
- Start by mixing the peanuts, sugar and corn syrup in a deep microwave-safe container
- Place the mixture in the microwave on high power for 10 minutes, pausing the cooking a few times to stir well and help it cook evenly
- As soon as you remove the container from the appliance, add the baking soda and stir quickly so it is fully incorporated into the mixture
- Immediately spread the syrup over a stone counter or cold surface that has been greased beforehand with a little margarine
- Let the sweet rest until completely cool and only then break it into smaller pieces to serve
Observations
This is a practical answer when you want a traditional crunchy sweet without spending long at the stove. The method is simple and direct, giving you a crisp peanut candy once it cools and breaks into pieces.
