Pressure cooker brown rice (Arroz integral na panela de pressão)

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion
1 bay leaf
1 clove
1 cup long-grain brown rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water

Where to find ingredients

Brown rice, olive oil, bay leaves, cloves and salt can be found in supermarkets and general food shops. Onion is widely available at supermarkets, markets and greengrocers.

Preparation method

  1. Keep the half onion whole
  2. Fix the bay leaf to the onion using the clove as a pin
  3. Heat the pressure cooker over medium heat without the lid
  4. Add the olive oil, the prepared onion and the rice
  5. Season with the salt
  6. Sauté the grains for 1 minute so they are coated in the fat
  7. Pour in the boiling water and mix well
  8. Close the pan and increase the stove flame
  9. As soon as the pan reaches pressure and starts to hiss, lower the heat
  10. Keep cooking for 15 minutes
  11. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid
  12. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve straight away

Observations

Using a pressure cooker drastically reduces the preparation time for brown rice. This technique gives you a tasty, reliable side dish while keeping the grain’s qualities in a practical everyday method.
