1 can (14 oz / 395g) sweetened condensed milk
Where to find ingredients
Sweetened condensed milk is available in the dairy or baking aisle of most grocery stores.
Preparation method
- Remove the paper label from the can of sweetened condensed milk
- With a small knife, remove any remaining glue residue to prevent clogging the pressure cooker valve
- Place the can of sweetened condensed milk inside the pressure cooker
- Add water to the cooker until the can is covered, leaving about an inch of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and place it over medium heat
- As soon as the cooker starts to hiss (whistle), reduce the heat if necessary and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and allow the steam to release naturally. Do not force the steam out
- Once all pressure has been released, carefully open the cooker lid
- Use tongs to remove the hot can from the cooker, avoiding burns
- Let the can cool completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the dulce de leche the day before consuming
