Ingredients
1 can (300 mL or 310 g) sweetened condensed milk
Where to find ingredients
Sweetened condensed milk is available in the dairy or canned goods aisle of most Canadian grocery stores.
Preparation method
- Remove the paper label from the can of sweetened condensed milk
- With a small knife, remove any glue residue to prevent clogging the pressure cooker valve
- Place the can of sweetened condensed milk inside the pressure cooker
- Add water to the pot to cover the can, leaving about two fingers of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and place it over medium heat
- As soon as the cooker starts to whistle (when pressure builds), reduce heat if necessary and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and let the steam release naturally. Do not force the steam out
- Once all the pressure has escaped, carefully open the cooker lid
- Use tongs to remove the hot can from the pot, avoiding burns
- Let the can cool completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the dulce de leche the day before you plan to use it
