Ingredients
1 can (395g) condensed milk
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk is readily available in most supermarkets and smaller grocery stores across Botswana.
Preparation method
- Remove the paper label from the can of condensed milk
- With a small knife, remove any glue residue to prevent clogging the pressure cooker valve
- Place the can of condensed milk inside the pressure cooker
- Add water to the pot to cover the can, leaving about two fingers of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and place it over medium heat
- As soon as the cooker starts to hiss (whistle), reduce the heat if necessary and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and allow the steam to escape naturally. Do not force the steam out
- Once all the pressure has escaped, carefully open the cooker lid
- Use tongs to remove the hot can from the cooker, avoiding burns
- Let the can cool completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the milk caramel the day before consuming
