Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 bay leaf
1 cup white rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 bay leaf
1 cup white rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water
Where to find ingredients
You can find these staples at any local grocery store or supermarket. If necessary, you may substitute the olive oil with sunflower or vegetable oil.
Preparation method
- Dice the onion into very small cubes
- Heat the water until it reaches a boil
- Heat a medium saucepan over low heat
- Add the olive oil and onion
- Add a pinch of salt
- Sauté the onion for 2 minutes until softened
- Incorporate the bay leaf into the sautéed mixture
- Add the rice and stir for 1 minute so the grains are coated in the olive oil
- Pour the boiling water over the rice
- Season with the remaining salt and mix gently
- Increase the heat to medium intensity
- Do not stir the rice from this point forward
- Wait until the water level reaches the surface of the grains
- Lower the heat and cover the pan partially
- Cook until you notice that all the water has been absorbed
- Test the doneness by inserting a fork and pushing the grains aside at the bottom of the pan
- Leave on the heat for a few more moments if there is still moisture
- Turn off the heat and keep the pan covered for 5 minutes so the steam finishes the cooking
- Fluff the grains delicately with a fork before serving
